This is my final poster and the variation that I am pleased with the most. This will no be the final print as I have just spotted various typo's that need to be corrected!

Renewable Energy Poster / Layout // Prop Design Changes
This is a colour variation that I have tried out. I think that the grey and the white compliment each other a lot better than green and white. I think it also gives the design more class and keeps it minimal.
I also decided to change the tagline at the bottom left hand side of the page because most people didn't really understand how it fitted in. I though a more appropriate tagline would simply be 'Save Tomorrow'.
This is another variation of the same poster. I decided to alter the propellor design to strengthen the illusion of movement in the props. This something that I think has worked well because the scale works better and it is also more centralised, which balances out the whole design.
In this design I have removed the line underneath the tagline as i thought the horizontal line took away the focus on the vertical line running through the entire poster.
This is another variation of the propellor. I created this by deleting various props from the original image. I was fairly pleased with the result, but I think it makes the propellor look like it is going a tad too fast.
This is a variation of the first propellor design. I decided to scale down the image which makes the design look a lot better in terms of balance, however I still like the second variation of the propellor the best.
Renewable Energy Poster / Colour Variations
These colour variations show different ways the overall feel and look of the design can be affected. I tried to see if having a different coloured image would effect the text.
I found that no matter what colour I changed the propellor to it still took too much attention of the type and ruined the balance of the overall image.
Renewable Energy Poster / Layout Variations
For this poster I want to concentrate on something that is not directly nuclear related. I decided to make a poster that promotes renewable energy and having researched the different types of renewable energy I drew out some sketches and decided I could make wind look good.
I decided to make something minimal and quite contemporary. I think that the main focal point for a wind turbine are the props. This is something that I will exploit in my design.
When it comes to type I wanted something very light and rounded to represent the lightness of the wind. This would also give the design a clean and futuristic feel, something that I definitely wanted to achieve in the design.
I had the idea of having some information about wind energy on the poster. I thought that this would tie in well with the image and also make the poster more useful.
I had the idea of dividing the page in half and placing the text to the tight hand side of this divide.
This divide would also act as the wind turbine stand.
This worked well, but I noticed that the image as a whole was very unbalanced.
To counterbalance the type on the right hand side of the poster I decided to, quite simply, place some type on the left hand side of the poster.
I wanted something short and catchy, as oppose to more information about wind energy.
Someone told me that the design had resemblance to a kids fan toy. This is when I decided to put the tagline 'Not Just For Kids'.
when I first started designing I wanted to use the colour green to represent renewable energy, but there was something about the colour that didn't sit right with me and I thought that the renewable aspect was obvious enough without having to use a the green colour.

The Destroyer of Worlds / Final
This is my final outcome for the fourth poster. I am extremely pleased with it, seeing as I have never really experimented with type properly before.
I have also had very good feedback from people and this has given me a new confidence when it comes to working with type.
As far as the colour is concerned, I have chosen a sky blue, however a lot of people have suggested that the grey complimented the type and the message very nicely. I think it will al have to depend on how I feel on the day when this is printed.
The Destroyer of Worlds / Colour Variations
Here are some colour variations of my final layout. I have decided to go with shades and pastel colours to maintain the vintage feel and also to in keep the image with the message of the text.
These colours also act as a border to the main focus which is the text.
The Destroyer of Worlds / Poster Design Ideas
This is my final layout for this poster. The swirly traditional font has been changed to a font that suits the message of the quote better. I am pleased with the way it reads and also the concept of the type as the image of a mushroom cloud.
In this design I tried to give the image more shape by increasing the size of the 'Death' text. However I was not happy with the result as it took too much away from the rest of the image.
I have also decided that the swirly traditional style text is not appropriate in terms of the message i am trying to deliver so this will be changed. On this image I placed the 'I Am' inside the silliolte of a nuclear bomb. I did this for decorative reasons but to also give the image more context. I think that this worked very well as the text is fairly small and placing it inside the bomb has made it more eye catching.
This is how I want the poster to take shape. I wanted the main focus to be on the words 'Become Death' as I think these are the words that fundamentally bring out most of the emotion.
I also wanted the words to form the shape of the infamous mushroom cloud.
I wasn't particularly pleased with the 'I am' at the top of the image so I decided that it had to be changed.
This issuu document contains a selection of typefaces that used and considered using for my fourth anti nuclear poster.
I selected the typefaces primarily on the basis that they looked vintage and this was feeling and look I wanted my poster to achieve.
I wanted the poster to communicate the era in which Oppenheimer said these famous words which was, of course, the 1940's.
Not all of these typefaces will be used in the final poster, but I will experiment with all of them to see which ones compliment each other the most.
The Destroyer of Worlds Poster / Ideas
Above show some ideas of how I would like the fourth image in the series to look like. The idea is to use type as image to create a mushroom cloud out of the famous quote below.
This spine tingling sentence is enough to get anyone thinking about the devastation nuclear energy can cause, and that is why I think it is perfect for one of my poster designs.
"Now I am become DEATH, the DESTROYER of WORLDS."
- J. Robert Oppenheimer
One of the most poignant and tragic quotes to have ever been recorded. (in my opinion)
This is quoted from J. Robert Oppenheimer, as he watched his Atomic Bomb being tested for the first time on july 16th, 1945.
Nuclear Info-graphic Poster / Final
This is my final for the info graphic poster. I decided add the gradient to give it more depth and to also give the illustration more life. The missiles are now in some context and look like they are falling through the sky to hit their targets.

Nuclear Info-graphic Poster / Variations
I played around with some type that would tie the poster together and eventually settled on, ' It Only Takes One' I thought that this was snappy and hard hitting.
I also played around with the layout of the text and decided a short sentence was needed to explain what the infograhic was displaying. This wasn't because the information being displayed wasn't clear enough, but because i found, through research, that a sentence is nearly always added to explain how the information graphic works.
Nuclear Info-graphic Poster / Ideas // Design Development
Above are some sketches of how I want the infographic to display the information on the poster. The idea is to display nuclear missiles in various sizes depending on how many that country has.
For Example Russia has 13,000 nuclear warheads, the most out of any country in the world, so the missile depicting russia will be the biggest.
I thought that this would be a good way to display the information because the viewer would be able to see it easily and the contrast would visible.
In the issuu document above are screen shots of the graphics and vectors that I produced for my third poster a Nuclear Infographic displaying how many nuclear weapons there are left in the world and what countries own them.

Fukushima Daiichi Poster / Final
This is my final design for the second poster in the series. I think that the colours compliment each other well, as well as the design. The heir-achy of the type works and the message of anti nuclear power is clear and concise.
Fukushima Daiichi Poster / Variations
With this colour I wanted to try and see if I could change the mood by altering the colour quite drastically. This orange dusky version that I created above does change the mood, but I think for the worse. It now appears less urgent and the boldness of the vectored lines and images have become less obvious, hence reducing the clarity of the message.
This image is the same as the one below, but I thought I could add a little more depth to it by changing the colour of the nuclear logo and the stroke colour of the text to a navy blue. I think this succeeded in adding depth but I was unhappy with how the colours worked together.
I changed the red to black in this poster to see if it would look bolder. It did look bolder but I decide that the image was already bold enough and it did not necessarily need the use of a dark colour to make it stand out more.
Above are some colour variations that I have done for the final layout of the design. Although I was happy with the blue and red scheme I decided to see if there were any colour that worked better.
In this image I have deleted one of the two towers. I have done this based on feedback that suggested that one of the towers was striking and powerful enough. The nuclear logo has also been centred to give the image for focus and stability. The Background gradient still needs to be added to add depth.
On this poster I have deleted the background and the 'Thanks!!' text. It now looks less cluttered but the depth to the image has totally disappeared. I have decided that the background in necessary to give the image depth and also I quite like it as well!
It was decided that this poster was a little too cluttered and this meant the delivery of the message was hindered. People were also unsure about the blue and white gradient background.
My attempt at re creating a 1950's hand written font also fell down. It was also decided that this was unnecessary because it threw other aspects of the design off balance.
This post shows my final variations and also some colour variations that I tried out. Generally I am pleased with all of the combinations that I tried and it was difficult to select which one I was going to select as a final.
I decided to ask my peers for some feedback and decide the final poster based on what they said.
Fukushima Daiichi Poster / Sketches // Idea Development
After the recent disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan after the tsunami it seemed only logical to use it to fuel my second poster in the series.
At first my designs where quite info graphic based and technical. I hoped to gather information and facts about the problems the radiation was causing the environment and to the people who lived near by.
As you can see above the designs are very technical.
After looking at some pictures from news reports on the internet of the Fukushima plant I realised that there was a strong iconic image that kept coming up. This was image of one of the towers that was located next to one of the damaged reactors.
I decided that this was an image I was going to use for my third poster in the series.
This is a sketch I did for my final design. I wanted to create a modern version of a 1950's style anti nuclear campaign...a kind of retro futuristic style that was popular at the time. To do this I needed certain things like a suitable typeface and colours.
These are the typefaces that I used in poster. In the end I settled with the bottom font called flyboy. This was a font that was styled on a 1950's thunderbird so I thought that it communicate the 1950's theme well.
These are a collection of screen shots that I have put together in Issuu. They show the development of certain things like the nuclear logo and tower.

3 Briefs Finalised
Ok so it turns out that one ive changed my mind about a couple of things and Id thought id update my blog to avoid any confusion in future Crits.
Also I have discovered that the competition brief 'No Nukes Japan' is not a valid competition brief. I have therefore decided to drop the 'Space shuttle' brief. This will be replaced by a valid competition brief from either... D&AD, ISTD or YCN.
Some of these briefs are yet to have been published, so I will focus all my efforts on the 3 briefs I already have until this time arises.

D&AD Competition Entry
These are my final designs that I completed for the D&AD competition. Overall I was happy with the outcome of the two designs. I also liked working to a short time scale as it made me develop ideas quicker.
I would have, however liked a little more time to develop some other ideas that I had for the competition. I have recently been getting more excited about design competitions and feel a sence of confidence when I enter them.
Hopefully this means that I am developing as a designer and that when this year is up I will be able to produce professional standard work.
Design Strategies Presentation
I have decided to upload my Design Strategies Presentation to my blog. I have done this because it shows a good idea of where I want to be as a designer.
I also took a lot of time going over the layout of the presentation and am pleased with the level of detail and consistency it communicates.
The presentation shows work that I have done over the summer and also work that I aspire to produce in the future. It also shows where I want to be and what I want to do after the course is over.
The feedback that I got from Lorenzo and Joe was generally good, however they did say that my designs needed more context and depth behind them to back them up.
I found the presentation a good insight to what was to be expected of me and how I was going to work and develop as a designer in the third and final year.

Butterlfly Bomb poster / Design Variations
These are some of my final designs for the first poster in my series. I am pleased with the outcome and think the message of peace and hope in conveyed well.
After some feedback from my peers it was suggested that the text and scripture should be turned to white to mirror the bottom of the page. it was also suggested that maybe the butterflies were not an obvious symbol of peace and maybe a more obvious symbol like a dove was needed to really bring the message home.
I have taken all this into account and will edit the design to the feedback I have got.
Butterlfly Bomb Poster / Ideas Development
Above: These are some thumbnail ideas for other posters that will be created in the series. I think that it is important to try and develop as many idea as possible and to get them critted by as many people a possible so a to get a good idea of message communicates the best.
Above: Some pictures of butterflies that I drew at various angles that will be scanned in to become digitalised.
This is the idea that I like the most and the idea that I think will be most hard hitting to the viewer.
The idea is to create a symbol of hope and peace by having a swarm of butterflies descending atomic bomb.
Hopefully this message of peace and hope will be communicated with clarity.
Above are some ideas for my first poster in the series. wanted to create a strong image as well as creating a short sentence that drives the message home further.
This first brief involves creating a series of posters that communicate an Anti Nuclear message. I have taken and expanded this brief from a competition that I found online at Graphic Competitions.com.
This is a subject that I hold particularly close to my heart and as well a spreading the message for a Nuclear free world I will also be promoting the ideas of renewable energy through these posters.
I will also be creating and branding a charity identity that will be releasing these posters into the public.
I have not decided, at present, whether this charity should be a n existing one or a fictional one.
