Final Business Card Design
This is the new and improved business card design with added watermark and black text for the contact information on the back
This will now fit with the set more appropriately.
Envelope Design
This is my design for the envelope that will become part of my stationary set. I designed this immediately after having looked at the stationary set for the first time.
My intentions were to make this piece of design fit in perfectly with the other final designs, most of all the compliment slip that is more or less of the same format.
The watermark, which is of the second part of the logo is something that I will also include across the range.
Stationary Set So Far
This is how my stationary looks so far. I am happy with the way they work together as they definitely look like they are representing the same company.
Looking at the designs together I can see how important it is to keep aspects of the design the same for each. The thin blue lines that divide some of the contact info work really well and I also like how the logo is situated in the top right hand corner of the letter-headed paper and compliment slip.
however there are dissimilarities between the set that need to be changed in order for them to be called a set.
The water marks on need to be kept the same for each of the pieces. I would also like to include one for the back of the business card.
The writing on the business card also needs to be changed to black to make it in keeping with the the rest of the text.
Final Letter-head Paper With New Logo
This is the final design for my letter headed paper with the new logo and new water mark. I feel that I am at a point in the project in which all the products are coming together nicely and also feel that there is a definite identity being formed.
I am interested in how these different pieces will look together in a set because it is important that they all bear similar traits so they look like they belong and represent the same company.

Final Business Card Design
This is my final business card. I am very pleased with the outcome and think that it delivers a very sharp and professional message as well as showing contemporary design influences.
I am also considering what could be done to this design when it is printed in terms of print finishes and processes.
The logo on the front could be very effective if it was embossed of even spot varnished. This is something that I will be looking into.
I will also need to consider what stock the business cards should be printed onto.
Business Card Back Variations
When it came to designing the back of the business card I wanted to design something that was clear, obvious and to the point. My reason for having this attitude was because I felt that the front of the business card had already done the hard part of grabbing someones attention.
All the back needed to do was to communicate the necessary contact information and the persons name.
all these designs are very simple and after having completed them I felt that the most effective designs were centralised.

Final Business Card Design Variations
A variant of this design will be selected for my final business card.
The spiral is meant to represent progress and advancement of the company as well as the focal point for a sophisticated measuring device that my company will also be producing.
I am very pleased with this design and some people think that this should become the new logo for Metrological Advancements.
I am inclined to agree.
These are variations of the design that I have taken forward. I selected this design because, as well as being eye catching I thought it also added nicely to the logo.
it is also quite a contemporary and modern and makes the logo look more original rather than the corporate logos we see on a day to day basis.
Business Card Variations
These are some business card designs that I have done for the position of C.E.O (Chief Executives Officer) at Metrology Advancements.
The main job of a business card is to be noticed. I have designed these cards with this a head of anything else.
As well as being eye catching and noticeable the business cards must also exert a professional touch so they are not picked up then simply chucked away.
These designs above all have different methods of initially attracting the attention of a potential employer, and found that some above others have worked better in terms of what I want people to see my company.
Final Letter-heads
This is the final variant that I have chosen for the first letter-head design. I have chosen it for its easy to read and classic format. I also like the idea of having the logo of the company centralised because it gives the the company and aura of importance.
This is a design that I have decided to drop to make way for the more original second design. This was a decision that did not come with ease. my reasons for doing this can be found below.
This is my final design for the second idea that I had for the design of the letter-head. This has been chosen because of its fairly unique layout and also its easy locatable contact information details.
After getting feed back from my course mates I have decided that this will be the final design for the letter-head. This has been decided because it mostly looked cleaner than the the other design and the fact that it was more original than the other.
There was some concern that the corporate companies would not care for a letter-head with an originality as long as they conducted themselves with in a professional manner.
However it is my opinion that a fresh way of presenting information is always a good thing as long as the information is not harder to digest, which is this case it is not.
It is also my view that this would send a message of youthful enthusiasm to companies as well as showing an experienced and professional touch.
Letter-head Design 2 Variations
These variations of the letter-head have been designed with the intention of being more original than other designs I have seen but at the same time being as equally legible for readers, most importantly other businesses.
I am happy with the outcome of these designs. I think that the layout is pretty original and the important contact information is also clearly readable for the viewer.
I think that this one of these designs or at least a variant of these will be chosen as my final letter-head.
Letter-head Design 1 Variations
This is one design that I have decided to develop further for my company letter-head. I feel that this design is a fairly classic way of designing a letter-head but also feel that it is a design that enables the person to read the information in the right heirachy.
It is also a design that maximises the noticeability of the logo and the company name.
I will also be carrying through another of the letter-head designs that I feel is more original than this.

This ISSUU document contains some designs that I have done for some letter headed paper. This design is important to get right because many other companies will be judging my company on its professionalism.
It is also a document that will be seen mainly in the correspondence to other companies so it is important that it presents the company to the best of its ability.

Situating Metrological Advancements
I also came to understand that there were different business types and that I needed to select the most suitable one for my company.
I have selected the business type of Private Limited Company (ltd).
My reasons for doing this can be found on my design context blog.

What Next?
Now that the logo has been designed it is time to start designing a range of products that will underpin the companies Identity.
I have been thinking of what printed material companies produce and this is the the list that I have compiled:
- Letter-headed Paper
- Business Cards
- Compliment Slips
- Invoices
- Brochures
- Mail outs
These products could easily be designed and work very well together as range of products for this brief. When it comes to designing this printed material I will be thinking of:
- Print Processes
- Stock Choice
- Print Formats
These things must be considered when designing this kind of material because the identity will be formed around the style and format that this range takes.
Final Logo
This is my final logo. It represents what the company speacialises in as well as who they are. There is also a very well balanced medium between the type part and image part of the logo.
Now that the logo has been completed, I am very keen to what it looks like.
This logo will alway be in development throughout this brief as certain formats and print process may force me to make modifications, or if I find a better way of presenting the logo and their ethos I will change it.
Final Typeface Choice Variations (Futura)
These are some variations of the final logo with the final selected typeface 'Futura'. This typeface has been chosen because it is slender and long and I think it balances out the image very well.
I have also been experimenting with different weight and opacity of the text. This was done to try and match the different opacity's of the image part of the logo.
Final Logo With Type Variations
After some decision making and some feedback from people in the year I have decided to pick the blue logo with the opacity of the 'A' dropped to 60 percent.
Now that the image side of the logo has been completed, I can begin to focus in the type side.
the ISSUU document above contains some ideas for the where the type should be situated, what weight is most appropriate and also what typeface would be best suited to the job. I have also taken into consideration that the chosen typeface will have to the main typeface used in all the company's products to sustain the consistency of the overall identity that I have created.
Some of these typefaces work well. For example Helvetica bold Italic is very legible but also doesn't take too much impact off the image side of the design.
There are some fonts however that do not work well, at all. I these typefaces have mostly been obtained from free font download webistes.
They are not complimentary in any sense of the word and through everything off balance. I feel that a much plainer and less decorative type is required to achieve a better balance for the overall logo.
Blue Logo Opacity Variations
These logos have been experimented with by dropping and increasing the opacity in order to achieve different levels of tone. I am pleased with all of them however some are more eye catching than others.
Informed Logo Colour Variations
From my contextual research I have found the there are three main areas of Metrological study. I thought that this would be a great thing to incorporate into my logo in order to give it more depth and a better concept.
These are some colour variations of the new logo idea. The three sloping shapes represent the three main studies of the science of measurement, 'metrology'. They also form the 'M' for the metrological and also half the 'A' for Advancements.
This is an idea that I think is very strong and one that works on a number of different levels.
The blue and red colour variants are also ones that I want to take further. I am also keen on experimenting with the idea of a 2 tone logo as this will give it more visual depth.

Regroup Time
It has come to my attention that I am getting a little carried away with designing my racing team skin livery.
I have noticed that from contextual research and some guidance from tutors that the main bulk and focus of this brief is to create a brand and identity.
My company will still be designed around a metrological ethos, but instead of thinking of how I can design that for use on a car, I need to think of how it will function purely as a metrology brand. This will be the finished identity that will be placed on the car, however the car is just a medium for doing this and plays no significant role in the influence of the brand and what they do.
With these new principles in mind I have decided to create a range of products that will best be suited for a metrology company.
It will only be after this has been achieved that I can start thinking about using a racing team as a format for the identity of the brand.

Logo Colour Variations
These are some colour variations of the logo I developed earlier. I have experimented with quite few different variations but at present none of them really jump out at me.
All of these logos contain black, so maybe this is something that I need to address.
Logo Development 2
This is one of the logos that I want to take forward and develop further. The idea is that it forms a final image of an M which will stand for the word metrological. It has also been formed out of an M and an A which stand for metrological advancements.
This development was drawn out on technical drawing paper so as to achieve accurate measurements before scanning it into Illustrator.
These are some of the variations of the logo that have been done in Illustrator. I am pleased with the results and think that the logo works effectively at communicating the name of the company.

Logo Development
These photos are of some log development for my company logo. My main focal point in creating this design is to make the 'M' and the 'A' fuse together to form one image that will be supported by type.
At this stage in the development I am enjoying experimenting with different methods of blending characters together although I do feel that my practice would benefit with some typographic knowledge.

Lotus Exige Livery Design
Over the summer I was asked to design a livery for a lotus Exige S that would be delivered sometime next year. I thought that this would be a good live brief to include as one of four of my major briefs for this module.
As the client only wanted me to design that the livery of the car to his specifications, I did not feel that this was strong enough to include as a major brief on its own.
I have therefore decided that I will add more depth to the brief so that I can include it as one of my majors.
What can I do to give the brief more depth?
I have decided that as well as producing a livery for the car I will create and brand a racing team.
This will then involve producing a whole range of products enabling me to turn it into a major brief.
The idea is that the team will be new to the circuit and needing to establish themselves as a competitive and established racing team.

Design In Perspective
The Outside of Imitate modern
This is a vectored image that I created from an original photo I found on the internet. The future proof logo has been placed in the centre of the main window and the opacity has been dropped so people can still see the inside of the gallery.
Inside the Gallery
This is how I imagine the exhibition to look like from the inside. I would like the work that was displayed to be shown in a large format on a completely blank wall with lots of space so that nothing is taken away from the work.
Exhibition Advertised on Building
This is an super enlarged version of my poster that has been made into a banner that would wrap around a building. I think that this would be a very clever way of grabbing peoples attention and letting them know about the gallery.
people may miss the posters and flyers but they will not be able to escape this.

Flyer Final
the slopping line theme that has been a running theme in the whole of the project is something that I have become very fond of. The text on top of this design is very legible and bold which makes for n easy digest of information.
The gradient is also something that I will try and factor in to my designing more as I think that it has gicen the whole project a brilliant touch. I will be careful, however that I don't over use it.
Flyer Back Designs
These are some designs that I have done for the back of the flyer. Neither one is better than the other in my opinion and the one that will be selected will for a purely personal aesthetic reason.
Flyer Design Ideas
These are all different variations of the same design for the front of the Futureproof Flyer.
As I was designing these flyers I came to realise that I had already designed a perfectly good poster that could be shrunk to fit an A5 flyer format with great ease. It seems somehow pointless to keep designing for something that has already been designed. This may appear to sound like a cop out but I think that this only gives further credit to the design o the poster and it flexibility to work in both large and small scale formats.
Ticket Design Final
This is my final ticket design. I decided to go for a more traditional stance as I had to abandon the previous concept.
All things considered I think that this format of ticket works very well, its been around for years so it must be alright!
all of the essential information to do with the exhibition is displayed on the ticket including the galleries website. The Radiation U.K logo is also situated in the top left and along the tear line.
I would like to print a number these and also to have the logo along the tear line foil blocked. This would give the ticket a very professional feel as well as adding a bit of depth to the overall design.
Ticket Design Ideas
I thought that it would be a good idea to add some tickets to the range of deliverables for this brief. I think that this will give the project a professional finishing touch as well as rounding off the project.
I originally decided to design the tickets in a circular format to match the Futureproof logo. I also came up with a concept that involved placing the 'Nuclear Threat' text on the side of the ticket that would be torn off and disposed of. This would send an anti-nuclear message to the people attending the exhibition.
However, this was something that I would regard later on, to be a fairly weak concept as the person doing the ripping off and disposing would not be the guests but a member of staff from the gallery, meaning the message would not have reached its desired target.
This concept was then abandoned and the means of creating a more traditional and practical ticket design were set about on.
Final Future Proof Poster Final
This is my final poster design for the promotion of the Futureproof exhibition. The reason why I have chosen this particular design is because I think the hierarchy of information absorbed is pretty much spot on.
I also like the linear structure of the design and generally they way everything is layered out on the page. Even though the design of the poster is fairly narrow and tall, it doesn't look off balance because the logos of the exhibition and the charity on either side balance the design out.
Future Proof Event Poster Designs
These are some poster designs that I have created to promote the Futureproof event. When creating these posters I made sure to keep the design similar to the brochure as the design in that has created a very strong identity for the futureproof.
I also didn't want the design to be too cluttered so only the fundamental pieces of information will be displayed.

Future Proof: An Exhibition Brochure
This photo shows all five variants of the brochure, each with a different poster on the back. I decided when I was in print to produce some stickers so that I could make some belly bands to hold the brochures down.
It also gives a great finishing and professional touch to the set.
These are photos of my final brochure design. After a lot of work has been put into this it is nice to be able to look and an appreciate something tangible rather than just starring at images on a screen.
One of the most fiddliest jobs I had to do when creating this brochure was the folding and is hindsight I should have taken more time to measure the folds more accurately to make it easier.
I am very pleased with how the brochure works as a whole and the colours have come out better than expected.
